Making an Appointment on the day

To book an urgent appt on the day it is better to book between the hours of 8:00am and 10:30am; and 1:00pm and 2:00pm.

We will triage these calls on the telephone and where required book an appointment with the appropriate member of staff throughout the day.

Appointments available on the day are reserved for urgent appointments only these do not include Repeat Prescriptions, Fitness for Work Certificates or for signing forms.

What is Triage?

Triage is the  process of determining the priority of patients' treatments based on the severity of their condition.

Our triage team works to ‘assess’ our patients needs to ensure that patients see a Doctor for immediate treatment if they cannot wait, whilst still treating minor illness and injury quickly and efficiently without the need to w ait for a doctor’s appointment.

Who are our triage clinicians?

All the Doctors and our Nurse on duty will who work in conjunction with each other both in the morning and the afternoon.

The triage Doctor team, consists of an On Call doctor who will deal with telephone calls for the day, and make emergency house calls, and the other Doctors who will see patients who need medical help that day.

What do our triage team do?

We will run what we call ‘book on the day’ clinics – these appointments cannot be pre-booked, and can only be booked the day that you wish to be seen.

When you call on the day the Receptionists will book you an appointment to speak to one of the Doctors on the triage team and who will make an assessment and decide if they need to be seen by one of the Doctors on the day.

            Doctors

Our On Call doctor deals with telephone consultations at the end of the Doctor’s session and telephones patients who need urgent advice or assistance that day, if an appointment is not available, or the patient is unable to visit the surgery.  The On Call doctor will assess the patient by telephone, and make an appointment a Doctor if they feel the patient needs to be seen, or will make a house call if the patient is really too poorly to travel to the surgery.

Their appointments cannot be pre-booked.

            Practice Nurses

The Nurse will also assist the Doctors and assess problems that she normally deals with like:

  • Ear/Chest/Throat Infections

  • Water Infections (UTI’s)

  • Seasonal problems, such as hayfever, colds and flu

  • Minor Injuries

  • Foreign Bodies

  • Contraception advice & Pill repeats
