Cancellation of Local Residents Meeting about Wentworth Medical Practice Proposed Extension
I hope you are all well.
Unfortunately, we have made the decision to cancel tonight’s meeting. We have been made aware of false and misleading information circulating on social media which means we do not think we can have a constructive and informative discussion at this time. We would like to hear people’s views and answer any questions you have, so would like to suggest other ways to do this.
We want to take a moment to clarify a few points that have recently circulated regarding the meeting.
Firstly, the Wentworth Medical Practice team have made every effort to notify residents about the meeting. Letters were distributed widely to local residents in Wentworth Close and sections of Wentworth Avenue, and any gaps in delivery were unintentional and certainly not selective.
Secondly, the proposed works are not about merging or expanding with another practice to grow our patients. We have recently merged with Langstone Way Surgery which has 7000 patients but are retaining their surgery building. This will remain a separate site from Wentworth and will continue to service these patients and we hope more from our Wentworth Avenue site who live closer to this postcode.
The intended works at Wentworth are to provide proper accommodation for the admin team, who are currently working out of the temporary portacabins at the front of the building. These improvements are aimed at enhancing the working environment which is very poor for staff and ensuring the surgery can continue to serve the community effectively. We would also like to provide space for training for medical students.
Due to false and misleading information being circulated on social media, we feel that the purpose of the meeting has been compromised. Rather than continuing with a meeting clouded by confusion, we would prefer to cancel it and instead invite residents to approach the practice directly with any questions or concerns. We are committed to open communication and will be happy to provide accurate information and reassurance. For all enquiries, please email the Practice Manager katrina.collins@nhs.net
Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to continuing a constructive dialogue with our community.
Warm regards,
GP Partners
